FELSI can conduct biological, physical and chemical sampling and monitoring of surface water bodies including freshwater lakes, streams, tributaries, and ponds and saltwater bodies. Collection of this data is often required to obtain environmental permits and for research associated with determining the long-term trends and quality of specific waterbodies or watersheds.

Typical projects that may require water quality sampling or monitoring are marinas, residential, lakes, streams, environmental contamination sites, construction projects, dredging, and waste water processes.

FELSI personnel are formally educated or have received supplemental training in aquatic vegetation identification and are thoroughly familiar with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Standard Operating Procedures for sampling surface water and typical Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) standards associated with surface water, ground water, and waste water sampling such as strict adherence to analytical holding times and chain of custody protocols. FELSI can prepare a project-specific Sampling and Analysis Plan for your water quality studies.

The Leon County Water Quality (LCWQ) Project involves physical, chemical, and biological assessment of 43 lakes, streams and tributaries in Leon County, Florida.

For the biological sampling and monitoring component of water quality studies, FELSI personnel can conduct aquatic vegetation monitoring of the littoral and deep water zones including identification of the dominant species of macrophytes and estimation of percent cover of the lake bottom, lake surface and water column occupied by submergent and emergent macrophytes.

For the physical and chemical sampling and monitoring component of water quality studies, FELSI personnel can conduct in-situ and laboratory monitoring of the water column and sediments. Parameters often include disolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, salinity, and temperature.

Subsequent to each sampling/monitoring event, FELSI conducts QA/QC on laboratory analysis results, equipment, and provides a tabular presentation or other required reporting of the water quality sampling/monitoring data.

FELSI owns a boat and typical equipment (i.e., monitors, sample collection devices ) used for water quality sampling and monitoring.

Please contact FELSI for more information regarding your project or to receive a cost proposal to perform water-quality related services.
